Crash Sends Hiram Man to Hospital

A second driver involved in the two-vehicle crash on Highway 92 in Hiram Monday afternoon was not taken for treatment.

A Hiram man was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after sustaining injuries in a two-vehicle crash authorities say he caused. According to officials with the Georgia State Patrol, the crash at Highway 92 at Bill Carruth Parkway occurred when a 2008 Ford Ranger made a left turn in front of a 2007 Kenworth. The Ford driver, 48-year-old Douglas Stevens of Hiram, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and will be charged with failing to yield while turning left, GSP officials told Dallas-Hiram Patch. The Kenworth was driven by 47-year-old Darren Keith McWhorter of Dallas, who was checked at the scene. Two Traffic Deaths Reported in Georgia During New Year's Holiday

The Georgia State Patrol reported that its troopers investigated 315 accidents as of noon today.

Georgia State Troopers already have investigated more crashes during this New Year's holiday than last year, but fewer injuries and only two deaths have been reported—so far. During holiday period patrols, 262 people were arrested for driving under the influence. Troopers have investigated 315 accidents as of noon today, Dec. 31, which included 139 injuries and one death. During last year's entire 102-hour holiday, the Department of Public Safety investigated 296 accidents. But those accidents included 172 injuries and 7 deaths. Statewide last year, law enforcement agencies reported 1,929 accidents with 716 inuries and 13 deaths. UPDATED 5:45 a.m., Jan. 2. Georgia State Troopers have investigated more crashes during this New Year's holiday than last year, with injuries rising above New Year's 2012 levels, and almost as many deaths – six so far this year, compared to seven last year. The GSP investigated three of the fatal traffic accidents, with local agencies investigating the other three. Eight people were killed last year in Georgia traffic crashes that occurred between Christmas and New Years Day.

In 2011, eight people were killed in traffic crashes in Georgia between Christmas and New Years Day and there were 401 people were arrested for driving under the influence. There is no question that the holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year, from shopping for that perfect gift to attending countless celebrations with family, friends and co-workers.  The New Year’s holiday period began Friday at 6 p.m. and ends Tuesday night, Jan. 1, 2013.  Be safe while traveling to and from your holiday destinations. 13 Fatalties Reported in Christmas Holiday Traffic

Georgia State Patrol troopers have investigated 595 crashes with 241 injuries so far.

Thirteen traffic deaths have been reported since the 102-hour Christmas holiday travel period began Friday at 6 p.m. up to noon on Tuesday, Christmas Day, according to the Georgia State Patrol. There have been 595 crashes with 241 injuries and 8 deaths investigated by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). Other agencies have reported five traffic fatalities, including a fatal two-car collision in Smyrna just before midnight on Monday that claimed the life of a Marietta woman. The fatalities count is much higher than in 2011 already, when three traffic deaths were reported. In 2011 there were 1,898 crashes with 693 injuries reported by all agencies. Hiram Resident Dies in I-75 Crash; Two Others Also Killed

The early Wednesday crash on Interstate 75 in Cartersville killed the drivers of two tractor-trailers and a passenger in one of the trucks.

Officials with the Georgia State Patrol Wednesday night released the names of three men killed in an early morning crash on Interstate 75 that shut down the Cartersville roadway for hours. GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said the three people killed were: The crash followed a series of events that began about 1:50 a.m. with a big rig running off the road. Both trucks caught fire and the interstate in both directions was shut down near Cass-White Road, exit 296, Wright said. Here's what happened, according to Wright: A northbound tractor-trailer left the roadway on the left shoulder, struck a guardrail, then hit a concrete pillar support for an overhead sign structure on the southbound side. State Patrol Ready for Busy Holiday Travel

Georgia troopers will be conducting concentrated patrols and road checks across the state during the 102-hour Thanksgiving holiday travel period, which is now under way.

Georgia State Patrol troopers will be out in full force this Thanksgiving holiday travel period, on the look out for impaired drivers and other violations in an attempt to reduce the number of traffic accidents. “We know from past experience that speed, alcohol, and failing to use seat belts are the primary contributing factors in fatal crashes,” said Colonel Mark W. Driver Charged in Wednesday Night Wreck

A New York man who operated the motorcycle involved in the two-vehicle wreck sustained injuries, while a Dallas driver faces charges.

Authorities Thursday were still compiling an accident report on a Wednesday night crash that led to charges against a Dallas man and injuries to a man from New York. Officials from the Georgia State Patrol told Dallas-Hiram Patch that the crash in front of Ingles on Atlanta Highway in Dallas happened about 6:05 p.m. Wednesday. Injured in the two-vehicle crash was 55-year-old William J. Manzo of Wallkill, N.Y. , who operated a motorcycle. The extent of Manzo’s injuries was not immediately known. Manzo’s motorcycle had been struck by a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo driven by James Allen Skinner, 67, of Dallas.
