Less than 2 percent of county voters took part in the vote that could have brought Sunday package sales to Paulding.
Proponents of Sunday package sales in Paulding likely weren’t raising their glasses Tuesday night. According to results posted at the Watson Government Complex in Dallas, 57.1 percent of voters who took part in the alcohol referendum said no to Sunday sales. The no votes took it with 665 ballots to 499 in favor of Sunday sales. According to the posted results, 1,167 ballots were cast out of the county’s 79,672 registered voters—a turnout of just 1.46 percent. Deidre Holden, supervisor of the Paulding County Elections office, told Dallas-Hiram Patch the final vote totals were 760 for Sunday sales to 942 against— a larger vote count but still resulting in defeat for the measure. Holden said unofficial vote totals would be posted on the …

The Board of Commissioners will discuss the items on Tuesday and vote at its business meeting on Wednesday.
Paulding County employees are looking at having to take four furlough days for fiscal year 2013. The Board of Commissioners is expected to discuss the furlough days at its work session on Tuesday morning with a vote expected at its business session on Wednesday evening. Last year, county employees took seven furlough days, a move that was slated to save the county $566,000. The furlough days were part of a $2.3 million in cuts to the county's budget. Also at its meetings, commissioners are expected to take up the subject of allowing county residents to vote on the issue of the sale of packaged alcohol on Sundays. Last month, commissioners learned that they would not be able to consider a resolution that would establish a voter referendum …

County voters could see the Sunday package sales issue appear on ballots as early as next year. Tell us where you side on the issue.
It remains to be seen if and when Paulding residents will get the chance to vote on whether to allow Sunday package sales of alcohol in the county. Paulding County commissioners had been set to consider Thursday afternoon a resolution that would establish a voter referendum on whether to allow package sales on Sunday. But commissioners at their morning work session learned that state regulations would prevent them from putting the issue in front of voters this year. If commissioners consider putting the issue in front of voters next year, the referendum could appear on the ballot of a special called election in March or during November’s general election. But either election would incur some expense on the county since all of its voting …

A referendum for Sunday package sales will no longer be up for consideration by Paulding commissioners today as regulations would not allow for a vote to be held in November unless the county sets up a separate election.
Supporters of Sunday package sales in Paulding County won’t be pouring a drink today in celebration. Paulding County commissioners had been slated to consider at this afternoon’s business session a resolution that would establish a voter referendum on whether to allow package sales on Sunday. But board members learned at their morning work session that state regulations would prevent them from putting the issue in front of voters this year. The issue, therefore, will not be taken up during commissioners’ 2 p.m. meeting. “I know it was your intention today to at least consider adopting a resolution to place that question on the November ballot,” County Administrator Michael Jones told commissioners. “Unfortunately, as we prepared that …

Paulding commissioners could choose to put the issue in front of voters.
Retailers of package malt beverages and wine in Paulding County could one day be able to sell their product on Sundays if a few votes go their way. Paulding commissioners at their meetings today are set to discuss a proposed resolution that would establish a voter referendum on whether to allow package sales on Sunday. If commissioners choose to put the issue in front of county residents, and if the voters say yes to Sunday sales, the county would follow in the footsteps of the city of Hiram. Voters there gave their blessing to Sunday sales last November; retailers were given the go-ahead to begin Sunday sales in December. Should Paulding commissioners put the Sunday sales issue before county voters? How would you vote on the issue? Vote …
