Damage, Road Closures Reported

A tornado watch affecting Paulding has been extended until 5 a.m. Saturday.

Paulding's not quite out of the woods yet, as it along with several other Georgia counties remain under a tornado watch until 5 a.m. Saturday. The county is also under a flash flood watch until 7 a.m. Emergency officials late Friday reported damage in several spots in the county. According to MaryAnn Phipps, coordinator and public information officer for Paulding County Fire/Rescue and Emergency Management Agency, about a dozen homes were reported damaged amid Friday’s weather. At least four roads were closed as of late Friday due to fallen power lines and debris: Mt. Olivet Road, Wayside Lane, Old Yorkville Road and Spring Road. Tornado Warning In Effect

It's time to prepare to head to the basement and get away from windows.

A tornado has been confirmed in eastern Alabama in a storm that has the metro Atlanta area in its sights, 11Alive news is reporting. The storm is expected to move from Polk and Haralson counties into Paulding, 11Alive says. Paulding is under a tornado watch until 1 a.m., the National Weather Service says. Hail, strong winds and heavy rain also are part of the storm front moving through the area. Everyone is advised to take shelter from the tornado threat, using the DUCK system: downstairs; under something; center of the building; keep away from windows.
